My Happy Place

By Gisselle Gomez

Although I love spending days at the pool, I wanted to capture the beauty of nature. I took this picture to show the sunset, and edited the photo to make the pool water black and white. The black and white pool represents stuff we can do any day, but I wanted the sunset to stand out to demonstrate how much we take nature for granted. Especially at times like these, when we are all being socially distanced, I thought this was something we could take advantage of. (Taken in Hawaii)

Uncharted Territory

By Macey Pawluk-Lipham

I took this picture and edited it over the winter before all of the chaos happened, and it really reminds me of how this whole situation feels. The darkness at the end of the winding road has the same terrifying, lonely mood. It makes me feel uneasy which is why I chose it during these uncertain times.

I took this picture when I happened upon this waterfall on a trail. I saw the imposing wall with all it’s age and erosion, and right next to it, a beautiful waterfall crashing into deep blue-green hues. The wall represents the hardships and struggles of the current times; however, the waterfall right beside it goes to show how we can sometimes overthink the bad and forget how much beauty there is around us.

I took this picture of a budding forest upon a cliff top. The area in which I took this photo was recently devastated by a massive forest fire. You can see an ashy spire on the left hand side, a corpse of the old forest, but the new trees reach far above it. The ashes of the fallen trees served to feed the next generation. What this picture goes to show is that even when trials destroy everything around you, there will always be a new spring to look forward to, and in that new spring, an opportunity to grow.

The Little Things

By Emily Di Silverio

If quarantine has taught me one thing it is to be grateful for nature and good company. I will be the first to admit that I have taken too many things for granted. Being isolated from nature has made me value my time outside. Besides nature, I am grateful for the time I have been gifted to spend with my parents and my sister. I know the situation is not ideal, but it has forced my family to spend more time together and it has made me appreciate all they do. I took this picture while hiking with my family a couple months ago, and it makes me happy thinking about the next time I will be able to do something fun like this again.

Solitude

By Aditya Kotha

I took this photo at Yellowstone. In a time when we are restricted to our homes, it can be hard to find beauty. The tree in the picture is far from its kin and appears to be dead. However, the tree, against all odds is still alive and ironically, the tree in this setting looks beautiful. Although we may feel the impact of the solidarity, it’s important to remind ourselves of the great beauty that can be found in the monotony around us and it’s crucial to remember to never give up.

Expanse

By Arjun Sureshkumar

I took this photo last summer at Yosemite. I think it gives us a good reminder of how vast the world is. No matter how high humanity goes, nature always has more to show us. I took the picture because it proved to me that there will always be something more to discover. Nature will never cease to amaze us. It is especially relevant to our current situation, as we are missing out on much of what we have to learn from Nature while sitting in quarantine.

City's Stopwatch

By Thomas Kao

(photo taken in Prague, Czech Republic & the image was edited in Pixlr) An astronomical clock with a young age of 500 and counting. To many, it represents that life is limited, and death can ring at any hour, so use this time wisely to appreciate the universe given to you.

Remember

By Thomas Kao

(photo taken in the remains of Dachau Concentration Camp, Bavaria, Germany) Every event that happens on this planet will always come to an end, and as time runs along, these events are often buried, but it is essential we look back and give our efforts to never forget them. I will never forget my visit to Dachau Concentration Camp, it had me in tears every step of the way, and reminded us how strong hate is.

Reflections

By Arjun Sureshkumar

This picture was taken in Yosemite. I thought that it was symbolic of the human mind. When you put in light in someone’s mind, it is reflected back onto others. I thought it was a nice reminder to stay positive. Your positivity can help others get through their day.

Separation of Woods

By Maxon Lavallee
I took this picture because it reminded me of two worlds meeting in my own backyard. On one side there is my life which has civility, humanity, and isolation. However the other side is what I consider a wild jungle with no limitations. The gate is the force that separates these two worlds from each other and only allows me to imagine of what is on the other side. This picture symbolizes the beauty of the world we can only see but cannot feel during the troubling yet necessary times of quarantine.

The Poppies

By Jadyn Magier

This was the first time that my family and I had all gone out together during isolation. Because I missed being outside, it felt really nice to take a mini road trip and get some fresh air. I've been wanting to see the poppies since last year, and I'm glad we were able to make it out there. They were so beautiful!
